Anna Branch Binford was born 29 June 1871 in Richmond, Virginia, to James Henry Binford (1832-1876) and Eliza Maria Binford (1837-1920). She was educated, then later taught in the Richmond public school system. After teaching for several years, Binford took a position as an editor with the Presbyterian Committee of Publication (later renamed Executive Committee of Education and Publication) in 1906, retiring in 1936. Binford died in Richmond, Virginia, on 28 February 1950. Her sister, Alice Lyon Binford (1869-1923) was the second wife of Webster S. Rhoads (1858-1941) who founded the department store chain, Miller & Rhoads.
