This collection is a transcription of two St. Mark's Parish registers with dates covering the years 1794-1871. St. Mark's Parish includes Culpeper, Orange, and Spotsylvania Counties, Virginia. The first register covers the years 1794-1835 and the second register spans 1829-1871. Both contain lists of baptisms (including slaves), confirmations, communicants, burials and funerals, marriages, and church offerings. Lists of communicants contains death dates for some parishioners. The second register also contains a short history of the parish and indexes of parishioners. Also contains a separate full-name and subject index compiled by Donna S. Boyd. Registers transcribed by Donna S. Boyd in 2001-2002

Biographical or historical data
St. Mark's Parish was created in 1730 by a division of St. George's Parish in Spotsylvania County. In 1734 Orange County was cut from Spotsylvania County along the line which marked the division of the two parishes, putting St. Mark's Parish in the new county. In 1740 St. Mark's Parish was divided for the formation of St. Thomas' Parish. Culpeper County was formed in 1749 from the portion of Orange County within the bounds of St. Mark's Parish, making Culpeper County and St. Mark's Parish coterminous. At this time Culpeper County included the area of the present Madison County (1793) and Rappahannock County (1833). For more information see, A HISTORY OF ST.
