A. J. Stone was born about 1830 in Chatham County, North Carolina. A farmer, he enlisted in Company D, 61st North Carolina Infantry 8 August 1862. He and his wife Emily had at least two children. Stone was killed at Drewry's Bluff, Virginia, 18 May 1864.
