Letter, 10 October 1865, from Alexander Spotswood Boyd (1819-1892) in Boydton, Mecklenburg County, Virginia, to John Bennett (1805-1885) in Petersburg, Menard County, Illinois. Biographical or historical data
Alexander Spotswood Boyd was born on 9 November 1819 in Mecklenburg County, Virginia. He was the son of Alexander Boyd and Matilda Burwell. Boyd served with the Third Virginia Cavalry during the Civil War, and was wounded at Manassas. He married Sarah D. Young on 26 January 1847, and died on 26 May 1892. He is buried in the St. James Episcopal Church cemetery in Boydton. Boyd's sister, Mary Armistead Boyd (1810-1849), married John Bennett (1805-1885) in 1829. They later moved to Illinois.
