Biographical or historical data
Joseph Clarke Robert was born in State College, Mississippi on 2 June 1906. He graduated from Furman in 1927, and received his masters and doctoral degrees at Duke University. He taught at Duke from 1938 to 1952, and was later president of Coker College in Hartsville, South Carolina. Dr. Robert was president of Hampden-Sydney College from 1955 to 1960. He then taught at the University of Richmond until he retired in 1971. Dr. Robert died in Richmond on 8 March 2003.
