Biographical or historical data
Alvin Mansfield Owsley was born in Denton, Texas on 11 June 1888. He attended North Texas State Normal College in 1904, and the Virginia Military Institute from 1906 to 1909. Owsley was elected Denton County district attorney in 1916. He enlisted and served in the Army during World War I. In 1922, Owsley was elected National Commander of the American Legion. He also served as Minister to Romania (1933-1935), Minister to the Irish Free State (1935-1937), and Minister to Denmark (1937-1939). Owsley died in Dallas, Texas on 3 April 1967.
