Biographical or historical data
George A. Haynes was born about 1843 in King and Queen County, Virginia. Before the Civil War, he moved to Richmond, Virginia, and began working in the store of Dandridge and Hart, Grocers. When the Civil War began, Haynes enlisted in Company F, 21st Virginia Infantry, and he served throughout the war. After the Civil War, he returned to Richmond and worked for Dandridge and Anderson. Haynes soon became a tobacco merchant, establishing himself as one of the most prominent. He married Emily Anderson and they apparently had no children. Haynes died 27 July 1904 in Richmond, and was buried in Hollywood Cemetery.
