Dunscomb corresponds with his superior John Pierce, the Board of Treasury for the United States, other commissioners of various states, Virginia state officials, and private individuals who served as soldiers and officers in the Virginia State Line in the Continental Army during the Revolution in an effort to settle claims against the United States for pay and other reasons. Biographical or historical data
Andrew Dunscomb was born in New York, New York, to Daniel Dunscomb and his wife. Andrew Dunscomb served in the American Revolution, and after the war, was appointed a Commissioner of Military Claims Against the United States for Virginia by the United States Congress 4 November 1784. Dunscomb relocated to Richmond, Virginia, to carry out his duties and in 1787, Virginia appointed him its Commissioner to Adjust Claims of Virginia Against the United States. Dunscomb later served as mayor of Richmond in 1795. He married Philadelphia DuVal and they had children. Dunscomb died 26 or 27 April 1802.
