Biographical or historical data
Arlon S. Atherton was born in Cheshire County, New Hampshire in 1842. During the Civil War he served Company I, 3rd New Hampshire Infantry and rose in rank from private to sergeant to 1st lieutenant. After the war he moved to Franklin County, Massachusetts, and became a grocer. By 1900 he had moved to Middlesex County, Massachusetts. Atherton married Susan Caldwell 25 December 1865, and they had three children. Atherton died in 1922 and was buried in Warwick Cemetery in Franklin County.
