Summary
Essay (copy), 4 March 1886, of an account of the Battle of Point Pleasant (10 October 1774), also known as the Battle of Kanawha, by Benjamin Harrison Smith of Charleston, West Virginia. Included in the account are descriptions of the battle. Of note are the military actions of Colonel Andrew Lewis (1720-1781) and Captains Benjamin Harrison, George Matthews, Daniel Smith, and John Stewart. Also included is a letter, 1886, from W.A. Glasgow to R.A. Brock (Robert Alonzo) which discusses the copy of the essay

Biographical or historical data
Benjamin Harrison Smith of Charlestown West Virginia was born in Rockingham County, Virginia. His essay is derived from "family traditions and from some of the officers in the said battle." In his essay, Smith mentions ancenstors who settled in parts of Augusta and Rockingham Counties; grand uncle Benjamin Harrison and uncle Daniel Smith who each commanded a company in the Battle of Point Pleasant.
