BLOOMINGTON BRIDGE, by Leonora Whitaker Wood (1890-1989) of Loudoun County, Virginia, is a short narrative concerning the May 1864 battle at Bloomington (Md.) Bridge (The Piedmont Raid) told from the Confederate perspective. Bloomington Bridge carries the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad across the Potomac River, two miles west of Piedmont, West Virginia and enabled the delivery of supplies to Federal troops at New Creek and Fort Kelly, West Virginia. The battle pitted Captain John Hanson McNeill's (1815-1864) "Rangers" against "Mulligan's Jackass Battery." Other McNeill Rangers mentioned include Captain John T. Peerce, Charles Wilkins, John Lynn, George Allen, William Pool, Benjamin Woodring (Worting), George Little, James Crawford, John Overman, Wayne Cosner, and Peter Divieman (Deverman)
