Biographical or historical data
Calvin Widener was a private in Company E, 30th Virginia Battalion. Orders for his arrest on desertion were issued 17 July 1863. Widener returned from his desertion 20 March 1864. Under sentence of death, Widener's execution was postponed by order of President Jefferson Davis (1808-1889) 21 April 1864.
