Summary
Papers, 1857-1990, of the Caskie-Morris family of Richmond, Virginia, and Cleveland, Ohio, consisting of correspondence, clippings, photographs, reports, and ephemera. The collection also contains the free papers of Delia Ellen Johnson, Mary Elizabeth Johnson, and Margaret Johnson issued by Henrico County, 1860-1862; two daybooks/planners from 1865 and 1880 which contain soldier's notes and some daily activities and addresses. The majority of materials are the certificates and reports of Effie Lee Morris (b. 1921) who attended Armstrong Normal School of the Richmond Public Schools system. Also in this collection are a number of photographs of the Morris family, including, Erma Lee (Caskie) Morris, mother of Effie Lee Morris, and William Hamilton Morris, father of Effie Lee Morris, and his business, Morris' Cafeteria, on Second Street, in Richmond, Virginia's Jackson Ward, a historically African-American neighborhood and business district. Also included are some school reports of Effie Lee Morris written in Cleveland, Ohio. The family moved to Cleveland after William Hamilton Morris took a job as head chef with the Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad Company
