Biographical or historical data
David Smith was born in 1772 in Washington County, Pennsylvania. He attended Hampden-Sydney College in Prince Edward County, Virginia, graduating in 1790. He was one of the original members of the Union Society, a literary society begun at Hampden-Sydney College in 1789. Smith became a Presbyterian minister, serving Fayette and Westmoreland Counties, Pennsylvania. He died in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, in 1803.
