Biographical or historical data
Charles Henry Walker was born in Louisa County, Virginia on 29 July 1845. He was the son of John W. Walker and Martha Hughson. He attended John B. Thompson's School in Louisa, Dinwiddie School in Greenwood, and Crenshaw School in Amelia. In 1863, he enlisted in the Confederate Army, and served in Col. John S. Mosby's 43rd Batallion, and was wounded at Berryville. Following the war, Walker worked at a clothing store in Charlottesville. He established his own mercantile business in Rectortown, Fauquier County, in 1875. He returned to Charlottesville in 1897, and established a hardware business. Walker was a director of the Albemarle Bank, Albemarle Telephone Company, and city treasurer of Charlottesville. In 1873, he married Roberta Caroll of Albemarle County in Danville. In 1912, he married Mrs. Mattie Wills. Charles Henry Walker died in Charlottesville on 21 March 1917, and is buried in Maplewood Cemetery.
