Biographical or historical data
Charles L. Hewitt was born in 1843 in Litchfield County, Connecticut. He was a carpenter. When the Civil War began, he enlisted in Company E, 7th Connecticut Infantry on 7 September 1861, and served until mustered out on 12 September 1864. He returned to Litchfield County and resumed his career as a carpenter. Hewitt and his first wife Jennie had at least one child. He and his second wife Charlotte (b. 1856), whom he married about 1880, had two children. Hewitt died in Litchfield County in 1932 and was buried in Forest View Cemetery.
