Biographical or historical data
William A. Dearing (1820-1862) was the son of Alfred Dearing (1791-1856) and Ann Jackson (1799-1889) of Rappahannock County, Virginia. William married Jane Eastham (1826-1910) in 1847 and they had three children, Clarence (1849-1907), Addie Eugenia (1853-1953), and William Alfred (1856-1892). They built a farm house, "Speed the Plough', in Amherst County, Virginia. Dearing died at the age of 42, due to a feud with a neighbor named Valentine Rucker (1831-1899). Jane and her children managed the farm and were founding members of Elon Baptist Church. William Alfred married Elizabeth Scott and Addie Eugenia married Radford Millner Cox (1849-1922). The farm was sold to the Montrose Fruit Company of Lynchburg in 1915.
