Biographical or historical data
Richard Oswald was born in 1705 in Scotland. He became a prosperous merchant in London, England, and acquired estates in America and the West Indies. Oswald was one of the commissioners who was appointed by Great Britain to treat for peace at the end of the American Revolution. He married Mary Ramsay (d. 1788), and they had at least one son. Oswald died 6 November 1784.
