Biographical or historical data
Elizabeth Heth was born in Chesterfield County, Virginia, to John Heth (1795-1842) and Margaret Pickett Heth (1801-1850) on 28 October 1830, and she was the sister of Confederate general Harry Heth (1825-1899). Elizabeth Heth married Thomas Vaden (1823-1877) of Chesterfield County 20 October 1853, and they had seven children. Thomas Vaden was a prosperous tobacco merchant who lost much of his fortune during the Civil War and to uninsured shipping losses. After her husband's death, Elizabeth Vaden lived at their home "Buck Hill" with her children. She died 13 August 1904 and was buried in Maury Cemetery in Manchester (now Richmond), Virginia.
