  • Papers, 1950-2009, of Eugene Garland Waddell (b. 1944) of Charleston, South Carolina, containing genealogical research on the Williams and Waddell families of Halifax, Pittsylvania, and Prince Edward Counties, Virginia, and Sumter County, South Carolina, notably the descendants of Elizabeth Ann Fallen (1837-1917) and her first husband Samuel Carter Williams (1832-1863) and second husband Henry Clay Waddell (1843-1915). The collection also includes research compiled by Howard Stokes Waddell, Jr. (1917-2009), and was used to write the book "A Virginia Family of Williams and Waddells" which was privately published in 2005
  • Included in the collection are abstracts, copies, and transcriptions of Bible records, census records, church records, epitaphs, military and pension records, and vital statistics, as well as books and other published sources, clippings, correspondence, family group sheets, genealogical charts and pedigrees, obituaries, photographs, and a typescript of "A Virginia Family of Williams and Waddells."

Biographical or historical data
Eugene Garland Waddell was born in Sumter, South Carolina on 12 June 1944. He is the son of Howard Stokes Waddell, Jr. (1917-2009) and Edna Erle Tallman (1918-2010). Waddell earned degrees at The College of Charleston and UCLA. He served as director of the Florence (SC) Museum and South Carolina Historical Society, an archivist at the Getty Center, head of collection development at the Canadian Centre for Architecture, and as professor of art history and archivist at The College of Charleston. He currently resides in Charleston, South Carolina.
