Biographical or historical data
Col. Christian Febiger (1746-1796) was born in Denmark and served as Benedict Arnold's brigadier-major during the invasion to Canada. He was taken prisoner in 1775 and, when exchanged in 1777, was commissioned lieutenant-colonel of Col. Daniel Morgan's 11th Virginia Regiment. After the battle of Brandywine (Sept. 1777), "Old Denmark" was promoted to colonel, and in 1779, he was chosen by Washington to command one of the four light infantry regiments for the storming of Stony Point, New York. In 1780 he was stationed in Philadelphia, with orders to forward arms and clothing to Richmond, Virginia. He returned to Virginia to help Col. Morgan suppress the Loyalist insurrection in Hampshire County (1781); then, he served as recruiting officer and commanded a body of Virginia recruits in Lafayette's army.
