Includes four land grants for 32,800 acres in Botetourt County to Chambers signed by Lieutenant Governor James Wood; agreement between George, Benjamin, and Joseph Chambers of Franklin County on the one part and William Chancellor, John Davis, George Thompson, and Edward Thompson of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, of the other part to locate and patent lands in Virginia for half interest in the enterprise; power of attorney from George Chambers to George Dyer Thompson for sale of lands; and surveys of land in Botetourt County. Correspondence and receipts concern payment of taxes owed on the land by the estate of William Chancellor and includes letters between Joseph D. Brown of Philadelphia, on of Chancellor's executors; James E. Heath, auditor of Virginia, and Henry Bowyer clerk of the Botetourt County Court. Also contains list of taxes owed by Chambers on his land, and list of acreage owned by Chambers in Botetourt, Alleghany, Grayson, Patrick, and Rockingham Counties, Virginia, and in Hampshire and Hardy Counties, (West) Virginia

- Born about 1762, George Chambers was the son of Benjamin Chambers (1708-1788), who founded Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, and his wife Jane Williams Chambers (1725-1795). In 1794, he, his brothers Benjamin Chambers (ca. 1755-1813) and Joseph Chambers (ca. 1756-1811) entered an agreement with Philadelphia merchants to patent over 100,000 acres of land in Virginia, mostly in Botetourt County.
