The photographs are of Lewis A. McMurran, Jr., president of the Virginia Young Democrats in 1950, J. Vaughan Gary, Virginia's Third District Congressman, shaking hands with his opponent in the 1950 Democratic primary, Minitree Folkes, Jr., member of the House of Delegates, and Governor John Battle and Attorney General J. Lindsay Almond, Jr. The membership lists are of the Albemarle County-Charlottesville, Culpeper County, and Dinwiddie County-Petersburg Young Democratic Clubs. Also includes an application for membership in the Sons of Confederate Veterans and blank stationery

Biographical or historical data
Hatley Norton Mason, Jr., was born 10 July 1925. He attended the University of Virginia, and graduated from the University of Richmond. He held the national post of adjutant-in-chief of the Sons of Confederate Veterans in 1950 and during his service as the Public Relations Director of the Young Democratic Clubs of Virginia was instrumental in publishing the organization's newsletter. From 1958 until 1967, he was the manager of the mutual fund department at Branch Cabell & Co., and Investment Corporation of Virginia, and division sales manager of the Norfolk-Virginia Beach branch of Anderson & Strudwick. He became director of marketing at Cecil-Waller Co., a Richmond area investment company, in 1967. In 1968, he became the executive director, responsible for developing training programs, of the Financial Personnel Institute in Richmond, a division of the psychological consulting firm, Associated Psychological Services, Inc. He was one of the founders and served on the board of directors of Steward School and Trinity Episcopal High School and was a member of the Confederate Museum and the Country Club of Virginia. He died 27 August 1986.
