Summary
This series of six documents forms a continuous map of the track of the Washington Southern Railway in minute detail. Among the features shown are locations of railroad structures along the track (stations, water tanks, pump houses, freight stations, etc.), track semaphore signals, private and public road crossings, water features, and mile post markers. A detailed map of the path of the railroad through the streets of Alexandria is included on section "5000." Names of adjoining landowners are noted, as are abutting properties and the survey bearings of their boundaries. The large scale of these maps means that they are generally very long when rolled out. These items were cleaned by the Library of Virginia Conservation Department in November 1999
