Biographical or historical data
George Jefferson Hundley was born 22 March 1838 in Mobile, Alabama, to Josiah Hundley (d. ca. 1848) and Cornelia Jefferson Hundley (d. ca. 1841). After the death of his parents he was raised by relatives in Virginia. Hundley studied law and was admitted to the bar before the Civil War began. Hundley served in the Confederate army and after the war briefly taught school. In 1866 he began practicing law in Buckingham County, Virginia. From 1871 to 1875, he represented Buckingham, Appomattox, and Fluvanna Counties in the Virginia state Senate. In 1895 he was elected to represent Amelia and Nottoway Counties in the Virginia House of Delegates. Hundley was elected to the circuit court bench in 1898. He married Lucy Waller Boyd (1854-1919) 5 October 1881, and they had three children. Hundley died in Richmond, Virginia, 30 March 1924 and was buried in the Amelia Presbyterian Church cemetery in Amelia County.
