Daybook and ledger, 1878-1899, of Henry Milton Henkel (1853-1933) of Rockingham County, Virginia. The original volume is filed as Accession 51043. A photocopy is filed as Accession 51006. The volume begins in 1878, and was kept by Siram P. Henkel (1809-1879) until his death. Afterwards, it was used by his son Henry, and contains estate accounts of his father, as well as accounts of flour and crops sold, farm supplies purchased, livestock bought and sold, and work performed by employees. There are also listings of the amounts of various crops raised on his farm

Biographical or historical data
Siram Peter Henkel was born on 16 March 1809 in New Market, Shenandoah County, Virginia. He was the son of Dr. Solomon Henkel (1777-1847) and Rebecca Miller (1780-1854). Siram Henkel operated a flour mill, sawmill, and farmed on his property known as "Plains Mill," three miles from New Market. He married Magaret Coiner (1820-1899) on 30 June 1835. They had 13 children. Henkel died on 17 October 1879, and is buried in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church cemetery in New Market. His son, Henry Milton Henkel, was born on 5 May 1853. He married Eugenia E. Stiegel (1856-1937). Henry Milton Henkel died on 24 January 1933.
