Biographical or historical data
Homer Skiff Sackett was born 15 December 1838 in Litchfield County, Connecticut, to Homer Sackett (1801-1871) and Flora Skiff Sackett (1808-1859). Sackett enlisted in the 19th Connecticut Infantry which became the 2nd Connecticut Heavy Artillery. Wounded at the battle of Cold Harbor, Sackett remained with his unit through the Shenandoah Valley Campaign and the Siege of Petersburg, up to the surrender at Appomattox. He was discharged July 1865 and returned to Litchfield County where he became a farmer. Sackett married Charrie E. Strong (1839-1890) on 3 October 1866, and they had four children. Sackett died 22 December 1899 and was buried in the Old Cemetery in Warren, Litchfield County, Connecticut.
