Biographical or historical data
Segar Jordan Cofer was born in Smithfield, Isle of Wight County, Virginia on 10 January 1901. She was the daughter of John I. Cofer and Mary Cary Jordan. She married Harry G. Dashiell on 10 April 1923. Segar Cofer Dashiell was a researcher, speaker, and writer on the history of Smithfield and Isle of Wight County, Virginia, and was a charter member of the Isle of Wight Chapter of the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities, and also a member of the Isle of Wight County Historical Society and Jamestowne Society. Dashiell served on the commission that founded the Isle of Wight County Museum. Segar Cofer Dashiell died in Smithfield on 30 March 2001 and is buried in Ivy Hill Cemetery.
