Papers, 1837-ca. 1948, of the Ivey-Johnson family of Petersburg and Richmond, Virginia, include a tumbrel cart permit, 1837; certificate of exemption from Confederate military service, 20 September 1864; a Richmond Typographical Union card, February 1877; a photograph, 29 May 1890, of surviving local defense troops of the Virginia Infantry, 3rd Regiment; and a photograph of and clipping regarding the death of former Virginia governor William E. Cameron (1842-1927). Other photographs include portraits of George W. Ivey (b. 1833), Mary Ann Ivey Johnson (1831-1894), Joseph H. Johnson (1825-1879), George Tyree Johnson (1855-1891), and Asa Johnson (1872-1957). The Ivey surname is sometimes spelled "Ivy."

The Ivey-Johnson family of Petersburg and Richmond, Virginia, included George W. Ivey (b. 1833), his sister Mary Ann Ivey Johnson (1831-1894), her husband Joseph Hiram Johnson (1825-1879), and their two surviving sons, George Tyree Johnson (1855-1891) and Asa Johnson (1872-1957). Asa Johnson was the author of "A History of Clay Street M. E. Church (South), Richmond, Virginia, 1844-1918" (LVA call number BX8481 .R5 C6)
