Biographical or historical data
James Bohannan Royster was born 8 June 1814 in Richmond, Virginia. He worked as a commission merchant, a druggist, and as a tobacco merchant and was a successful businessman, until his business was damaged by the Civil War. Royster was elected city auditor of Richmond in 1872 and served until just before his death. Royster and his wife Mary C. Royster (1808-1901) had one son. Royster died in Richmond 18 June 1883 and was buried in Hollywood Cemetery.
