Biographical or historical data
James Hupman was born in August or September 1824 in Augusta County, Virginia, to Peter Hupman and Polly Hupman. He moved with his family to that part of Bath County, Virginia, that became Highland County, Virginia. By 1860 he owned his own farm in Highland County. Hupman married first Margaret Gwin Hook (ca. 1825-by 1866) 12 May 1859, and they apparently had no children. He married second Hettie Huggard Benson Kincaid (1835-1911) 11 October 1866, and they had four children. Hupman died in Highland County 8 February 1894 and is buried in the family cemetery in Highland County.
