Biographical or historical data
James Pickens was born about 1840 in Lewis County, (West) Virginia, to James Pickens (ca. 1793-1862) and Rachel Pickens (ca. 1796-1871). He enlisted in Company A, 10th West Virginia Infantry, Union Army, 13 March 1862. He was wounded at the battle of Droop Mountain 6 November 1863. Pickens transferred to the ambulance corps 2 September 1864.
