Biographical or historical data
Jesse Hare was born 11 March 1789 in either Pennsylvania or Maryland. By the early 1810s, he resided in Baltimore, Maryland, and he moved to Lynchburg, Virginia, by 1817. Hare became a tobacconist and may have become the wealthiest man in Lynchburg. Hare married Catharine H. Welch/Wolst 11 October 1810 and they had six children. Hare died in Lynchburg 14 January 1861.
