Biographical or historical data
John Gaullaudette Wallace was born in Norfolk County, Virginia on 23 March 1840. He was the son of George Thomas Wallace and Elizabeth McIntosh Curtis. Wallace enlisted on 17 October 1861 in the Blanchard Grays, Company C of the 61st Virginia Infantry. He was wounded at the Battle of the Crater on 30 July 1864. Following the war, he engaged in the lumber business with his father in the firm Wallace and Son. The firm's name was later changed to The Wallace Company, which specialized in the growing of corn, soybeans, and potatoes. He married Veronica McGehee (1842-1907) on 15 February 1865, and they resided at their home "Glencoe." Wallace died there on 4 July 1910, and is buried in Riverside-Magnolia Cemetery in Norfolk.
