Biographical or historical data
John L. Stuart was born about 1842. He enlisted in Company D, 49th North Carolina Infantry 15 March 1862. Stuart was wounded and captured at the battle of Five Forks 1 April 1865. He was released from a Washington D.C. military hospital 1 August 1865, after taking the oath of allegiance. Stuart's left leg was amputated.
