Biographical or historical data
John Payne Kelly was born 10 March 1789. He became a very prosperous farmer and miller in Culpeper County, Virginia. In 1848, Kelly opened a toll bridge at Kelly's Ford and the settlement that sprang up around the ford was called Kellysville. Much of Kelly's property was damaged during the Civil War. Kelly and his wife Anne P. Kelly (1797-1856) had at least four children. Kelly died in Culpeper County 13 April 1871 and was buried in the family cemetery.
