Biographical or historical data
Joseph Alexander West was born in Powhatan County, Virginia on 26 September 1820. He was the son of John S. West and Martha S. Jones. He attended Randolph-Macon College, and then moved to Spencer, Roane County, (West) Virginia, where he was a Methodist minister. He married 1) Elizabeth Hanger in 1854 and 2) Margaret Ann Springston in 1864. West died in 1890.
