Biographical or historical data
E.W. Magruder was appointed Chief Chemist for the Department of Agriculture on 16 April 1900. As chief chemist, Magruder analyzed samples of fertilizer submitted by inspectors or farmers. Magruder also analyzed samples of minerals such as limestone used as fertilizer.
