Biographical or historical data
George J. Arnold was born in either 1811 (tombstone) or 1816 (census) and was a lawyer, large landowner, and prominent citizen of Weston, Lewis County, West Virginia. He developed a chain of hotels that greatly aided in the development of a number of small towns in Lewis County. The 1860 census lists his age as 44, which would make his birth year 1816. A transcription of his tombstone inscription stated that he died on 26 September 1899 at the age of 88 yrs., 6 mos., and 8 days, which would make his birth year 1811.
