Biographical or historical data
Prominent family from King William and Spotsylvania Counties; and Williamsburg, Virginia. John Waller, of Enfield, King William County, Virginia, was born in 1673 to John and Mary (Key) Waller of England. John Waller was a sheriff in King William County and first clerk of Spotsylvania County, 1722-1742. John married Dorothy King and had six children: Mary (1699-1781), who married Zachary Lewis; John (1701-1776), married to Agnes Carr (1712-1777); William (1714-1760), married to Ann Standard; Benjamin (1716-1786), married to Martha Hall (1728-1780); Edmund (1718-1771), married to Mary Pendleton (1720-1806); and Thomas (1732-1788), married to Sarah Dabney (1740-1822). Benjamin Waller, 3rd son of John and Dorothy Waller, resided in Williamsburg, Virginia, and was a lawyer, served as deputy clerk, King's Attorney, and represented James City County, Virginia in the House of Burgesses. Later, he was a member of the Council of the State of Virginia and presided in the Court of Admiralty from 1779 until his resignation in 1786. William Waller, like his father John, was a clerk in Spotsylvania County, Virginia.
