The papers also included military commissions for Richard Richards as ensign of the 4th Company of Virginia militia in Essex County and John Barker as sargeant and officer of the 60th Regiment of Virginia militia

- John Marshall, born 24 Sept. 1755 in Germantown (Fauquier County), Virginia, served in the Virginia House of Delegates (1782-1790, 1795-1796), as attorney general (1794-1795), Congressman (1799-1800), chief justice of the U.S. (1801-1835), and principal founder of judicial review and of the American system of constitutional law. He married Mary Willis Ambler (1766-1831) on 3 January 1783 and died in office on 6 July 1835.
