Biographical or historical data
Martin Pickett was born in King George County, Virginia on 25 December 1736. He was the son of William Pickett and Elizabeth Cooke. Pickett served as a lieutenant in the Faquier militia during the French and Indian War. He represented Fauquier County at the fifth Virginia convention in Williamsburg in 1776, and served as lieutenant-colonel in the 3rd Virginia Regiment in the Revolutionary War. Following the war, Pickett was tax commissioner, coroner, and sheriff for Fauquier County. He married Lucy Anna Blackwell on 31 May 1764. They resided at "Paradise." Martin Pickett died on 14 April 1804.
