Hopewell, Virginia, was originally called City Point. It was established as Charles City Point in 1613. The development of a munitions plant and housing for employees by Ei. Du Pont de Nemours and Company on a farm adjoining City Point occurred in 1913 and Hopewell became a city in 1916. Portions of Prince George County and old City Point were annexed at later dates. It adjoins Chesterfield County on the north and Prince George County on the other sides.
