Biographical or historical data
John Burwell Omohundro was born 23 November 1816 in Albemarle County, Virginia, to Richard Omohundro (1777-1860) and Elizabeth Seay Omohundro (1777-1856). As a child, he moved with his family to Gale Hill near Columbia, Fluvanna County, Virginia. He lived on his father's plantation until he entered the mercantile business in Wilmington, Fluvanna County, in 1838. In 1845, Omohundro purchased Pleasure Hill just west of Palmyra in Fluvanna County.
