  • Papers, 1743-1826, of Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826) of Albemarle County, Virginia, consisting of three series: I. Drawing Series, 1751-1826; II. Special Series, 1759-1825; and III. Main Series, 1732-1828. Drawing Series consists of accounts, architectural drawings, correspondence, field notes, maps, memorandum books, plats, receipts, and surveys. Architectural drawings include ones of Monticello, Poplar Forest, University of Virginia, the Virginia state capitol, the Virginia governor's mansion, and Bremo (Fluvanna County, Virginia); also drawings for a proposal for the executive mansion in Washington, D.C., a saw mill and canal, residences, and churches. Surveys, plats, and field notes contain information on Jefferson's lands in Albemarle and Bedford Counties, as well as the property for the University of Virginia. Maps are of Jefferson's properties, Albemarle County, Cumberland County, Virginia, and the James River and Fluvanna River from Richmond, Virginia, to Monticello. Also consist of Jefferson's professional and political writings as a lawyer, member of the House of Burgesses and of the Continental Congress, minister to France, Secretary of State, Vice President, and President and discuss political issues, including the United States Constitution, Louisiana Purchase, and Jefferson's presidency.
