Papers, 1834-1838, of the Randolph family of Albemarle County, Virginia, and Arkansas, Massachusetts, and Tennessee, consisting of letters from members of the Randolph family concerning the engagement and marriage of (Meriwether) Lewis Randolph and Elizabeth Martin, the death of Lewis Randolph and settlement of his estate, health, travel, and other family news. Papers also contain letters from Lewis Randolph and Elizabeth Martin Randolph to Andrew Jackson Donelson and Emily Donelson concerning the Randolphs' courtship and marriage, and a letter from Elizabeth Martin Randolph to her father James G. Martin on the death of her husband Lewis. Also a copy of an agreement concerning the division of land in Arkansas in which Lewis Randolph was a partner

Prominent family which resided in Albemarle County, Virginia, and Arkansas, Massachusetts, and Washington D.C. Martha Jefferson (1772-1836) was the daughter of Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826) and Martha Wayles Skelton Jefferson (1748-1782). She married Thomas Mann Randolph (1768-1828) 23 February 1790, and they had thirteen children, including: Thomas Jefferson Randolph (1792-1875), who married Jane Hollins Nicholas (1798-1871), and they had twelve children; Ellen Wayles Randolph (1796-1876), who married Joseph Coolidge (1798-1879) 27 May 1825, and they had seven children; Mary Jefferson Randolph (1803-1876); Septima Ann Randolph (1814-1887), who married David Scott Meikleham 13 August 1838 and they had four children; and Meriwether Lewis Randolph (1810-1837), who married Elizabeth Martin (d. 1871), and they had one child. Elizabeth Martin Randolph later married Andrew Jackson Donelson (1799-1871). Cary Anne Randolph (1820-1859) was the daughter of Thomas Jefferson Randolph and Jane Hollins Nicholas Randolph.
