Biographical or historical data
Philip Helsley of Shenandoah County, Virginia, was born about 1807. He was a farmer and community leader in the Stoney Creek area, serving as a justice of the peace, in the 13th regiment of Virginia militia, and president of Zion Lutheran Church Council. On 23 May 1838, he married Elizabeth Foltz, daughter of Joshua Foltz, and had five children: Mary C., Sara, Jeptha (1844-1925), Elizabeth M., and Jacob Joshua (1847-1926). He died about 1884.
