The Gaines family lived in the family home of "Powhite" in Hanover County, Virginia. William Gaines (1804-1874) and Jane (Spindle) Gaines (d. 1869) were married 29 December 1831. Fannie W. Gaines (1836-) married Seaton G. Tinsley on 2 May 1860.
