Biographical or historical data
William Lawrence Bottomley (1883-1951) completed his training in architecture at Columbia University. After studying at the American Academy in Rome and the Ecole de Beaux-Arts in Paris, Bottomley opened a practice in New York around 1910. He gained a repution as a designer of Colonial Revival residences in Virginia for wealthy clients. A number of his commissions grace Richmond's Monument Avenue.
