Bolling Batte (1906-1996) of Norfolk, Virginia, including letters written to him by his parents Samuel Bassett French Batte (1876-1933) and Mary Campbell (Jones) Batte (1878-1957) while he was attending the Virginia Military Institute from 1925 to 1928. There is also information relating to his career with the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company, including his work on construction of the Norfolk coastal harbor radiotelephone system at the Virginia Beach transmitting station. The collection also contains a Bible record of the Jones and Batte families, photographs, papers of his daughters Lucinda Campbell Batte (b. 1939) and Francis Harrison Drummond Batte (b. 1945), and records relating to the sale of property in Warwick County (now Newport News) by Mary C. Batte

Biographical or historical data
Robert Bolling Batte was born in Norfolk, Virginia on 13 August 1906. He was the son of Samuel Bassett French Batte (1876-1933) and Mary Campbell Jones (1878-1957). He graduated from the Virginia Military Institute in 1928, and was employed as an engineer with the Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Company. Batte married Frances Harrison Drummond (1910-1996). Robert Bolling Batte died in Petersburg, Virginia on 3 June 1996, and is buried in Elmwood Cemetery in Norfolk, Virginia.
